Simon & Schuster Children’s Books partners with Gosh
Simon & Schuster Children’s Books is launching an ‘ambitious, long-term’ publishing programme for Peter Pan and Neverland, in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
In a deal brokered by Rachel Petty at The Blair Partnership, Simon & Schuster Children’s Books acquired World Rights for Colour Publishing and UK & Commonwealth (excluding Canada) rights, with a Neverland fiction series on the way from bestselling authors Katie Tsang and Kevin Tsang. The first title, The Neverland Thieves, arrives on September 24th as a lead high-spec hardback, illustrated by Kristina Kister.
Reactions to the partnership
“We are incredibly proud to become the official Peter Pan and Neverland publisher, working with Gosh Charity, The Blair Partnership and our incredible longtime authors Katie and Kevin Tsang,” said Rachel Denwood, Managing Director of Simon & Schuster Children’s Books.
“This is a rare opportunity to steward one of the world’s most treasured story-book worlds, and our vision is to honour its heritage while inviting today’s children into Neverland. Many of us walk past Great Ormond Street Hospital on our way to the S&S office, and we have been proud to support the hospital in different ways over the years. This partnership marks a thrilling new chapter, and we are excited to launch with a sensational campaign for The Neverland Thieves.
“Expect big things from the team that brought you Skandar! Katie and Kevin Tsang are fantastic storytellers, bringing humour, heart and high adventure in abundance. I cannot think of anyone more suited to help shape the future of Neverland.”
Chris Carter, Head of Partnership Development at Gosh Charity, added: “We are immensely proud of the legacy we share with JM Barrie and of the incredible story of Peter Pan that continues to inspire generations. Partnering with Simon & Schuster opens an exciting new chapter for Gosh Charity and will help us continue to support the vital work at Great Ormond Street Hospital, ensuring that seriously ill children get the best chance and the best childhood possible. We cannot wait to read Katie and Kevin’s new tales of Neverland, which will bring thrilling adventures and magic to this beloved world.”
Authers Katie and Kevin Tsang said: “Having the opportunity to write this series in collaboration with Gosh Charity is such a gift and a huge honour. We are both lifelong fans of Peter Pan and we are thrilled to have a chance to play in Neverland and add our take and original characters to a beloved world and story.
“We have a fantastic history working with the amazing S&S team and know that our new Neverland series is in the very best hands and is set to soar. We are incredibly proud to be part of the Neverland legacy. And the fact that sales of these books will directly benefit children at Great Ormond Street Hospital makes it even more special.”
