Smithsonian signs IMG Licensing as licensing representative
Smithsonian Institution has appointed IMG Licensing as its exclusive licensing representative to expand the institution’s global consumer products and licensing business. The partnership aims to bring the Smithsonian’s collections, educational mission, and cultural heritage to wider audiences through branded products and services.
Founded in 1846, the Smithsonian includes 21 museums, 14 research and education centers, and the National Zoo. Its collections contain more than 157 million objects and specimens spanning art, history, science, culture, and technology.
Developing products inspired by Smithsonian properties
Under the agreement, IMG Licensing will develop products inspired by Smithsonian properties across categories such as apparel, accessories, home goods, toys, games, beauty, travel, stationery, digital products, and gifts. The initiative is designed to generate new revenue streams that support Smithsonian programs, exhibitions, research, and educational outreach.
Reaching new audiences
Denise Elliott, Acting President of Smithsonian Enterprises, said the collaboration will help the institution reach new audiences while expanding access to mission-aligned products. Bruno Maglione, President of IMG Licensing, said the partnership creates opportunities to build products inspired by one of the world’s most respected cultural institutions, particularly as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.
