The Odyssey conquers global box office with record opening

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has opened to a global box office haul of $264 million, marking the director’s biggest opening weekend outside his Batman films and surpassing the debut of Oppenheimer. The $250 million epic earned $124.5 million in North America, making it the third-largest domestic opening of the year.

The film launched in 73 international markets across more than 12,800 locations, with premium IMAX and large-format screenings accounting for a significant share of ticket sales. The UK and Ireland led international markets with $17.4 million, while audiences aged 18 to 34 made up the largest share of moviegoers despite the film’s R rating.

Based on Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya. Director Christopher Nolan described the production as a demanding experience and suggested he may take a break from filmmaking following the film’s release.
