The Odyssey overtakes Jurassic World as Universal’s highest grossing film
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has overtaken Jurassic World to become the highest grossing film in Universal Studios history. The film has surpassed 1.68 billion US dollars in international box office revenue, exceeding Jurassic World, which had held the record since 2015 with more than 1.67 billion US dollars.
Highest grossing Rated R film of all time
The achievement is particularly notable because The Odyssey is also the Highest‑grossing R‑rated film of all time in the United States. The rating limits its potential audience compared with Jurassic World, which was able to attract a significantly broader cinema audience. In Germany, The Odyssey is rated 12 and therefore does not face the same restriction.
One of the most ambitious movies in cinematic history
NBCUniversal Entertainment Chairwoman Donna Langley described the film as one of the most ambitious and brilliant movies in cinematic history and called it a generation‑defining event that is driving people to return to cinemas.
Under an exclusive content licensing partnership between NBCUniversal and Sky, The Odyssey will eventually be available through Sky and WOW. In the United States, its digital video on demand release and physical Blu ray and DVD release are scheduled for November 17, 2026.
