These Amazon markets are attractive for European sellers
Internationalization is known to be easier with Amazon than anywhere else: a few clicks in Seller Central, and your own products are not only for sale on your home marketplace, but also on the other international Amazon platforms. But where is an international listing particularly worthwhile?
The online marketing agency Iconic Sales addressed this question as part of a random sample. In the process, a shopping cart with the ten most-searched-for products in Germany was compiled and the prices for this fictitious order on 28.3.23 were compared with each other on the ten Amazon marketplaces with the highest turnover in the USA, Germany, UK, Japan, India, France, Italy, Canada, Spain and Australia.
Up to 400 euros price difference for a laptop
The result: The price differences are astonishingly high. In India, the most expensive market, the test basket cost 3,347 euros; in Germany, which belongs to the midfield in terms of price, it would have cost 3,154 euros. In the least expensive market, Canada, Amazon charged only 2,595 euros. But even in the much larger American market, the USA, the prices are quite low with a total cost of 2,648 Euros.
Looking at the products, the price range is widest for the laptop examined. While consumers in Canada pay 948 euros, a whopping 1,349 euros is due in France.
Within the PanEU borders, Spain in particular offers great potential for German sellers; they can achieve higher prices in the southern European country than in Germany for many products from the shopping basket. The UK market also performed attractively, with prices for nine of the ten products surveyed significantly above the European average.
Belgium and the Netherlands: disproportionate growth
"The Amazon country comparison reveals important insights for sellers and vendors. Besides the insight that the UK is a market with particularly high potential, we don't want to leave out two countries that are particularly up-and-coming," said Stefan Gutheil, CEO & Founder of Iconic Sales. "In the European market, Belgium and the Netherlands are currently developing disproportionately fast and can be of great importance, especially for Amazon merchants in the EU. The prices offered for products in the two countries are above average in the comparison."
The shopping cart of the sample studied included an Alexa, Bluetooth headphones, headphones, laptop, Nintendo Switch, powerbank, smartphone, smartwatch, tablet and season 8 of Game of Thrones.
