TIE reveals winners of the 6th Play for Change Awards
Learning Resources, PLAYMOBIL and the LEGO Group won gold in the sixth edition of the Play for Change Awards. Organised by Toy Industries of Europe (TIE), these Awards celebrate the innovation and ingenuity that define the toy sector’s efforts over the last year to maximize the numerous benefits of play for Europe’s children.
A wide range of exceptional toys, games and initiatives were submitted from around the globe to be considered by the expert juries. The gold, silver, and bronze winners reflect the advancements toy companies have made in the areas of Diversity & Inclusion, Life Skills, and Sustainability.
Diversity & Inclusion category
The award recognizes initiatives and toys that challenge outdated norms of social status, ability, gender, race, or religion.
Gold: The Lego Group for raising awareness of invisible disabilities through its partnership with the Hidden Sunflower Campaign.
Silver: Miniland for its Create Your Own Personalized Doll initiative, which enables children with different abilities to recognize themselves and their communities in their dolls.
Bronze: Mattel for updating its toy portfolio for children who have difficulty distinguishing colors.
Life Skills Category
for initiatives and toys that prepare children for tomorrow's world.
Gold: Learning Resources for its advanced binoculars that encourage children to explore nature both outdoors and indoors.
Silver: Learning Resources for its innovative approach to promoting reading and storytelling skills in young children.
Bronze: Kosmos for preparing children for the 21st century through hands-on STEM learning.
Bronze: Miniland for its “Allies in Play” product line, which combats bullying by helping children recognize and process emotions.
Sustainability category
for initiatives and toys that have a positive impact on the environment.
Gold: Playmobil for its initiative to manufacture its junior product line from 90 percent bio-based, ISCC Plus-certified plastic, as well as for its comprehensive commitment to sustainability.
Silver: Smoby Toys, for bringing children outdoors with its mud kitchen, which is made from 90 percent recycled plastic – an impressive achievement for an outdoor toy that requires high durability and safety standards.
Bronze: D&R Denkriesen, for educating children about coastal protection and species conservation through its interpretation of a classic memory game.
Bronze: Mattel for its Matchbox Moving Parts line, which is made from at least 70 percent ISCC materials and features innovative packaging that allows a direct view of the toy without plastic.
The winners were announced on November 18 in Brussels at a ceremony that brought together participants from the toy industry and EU policymakers.
