Trump tariffs: Mattel plans price increases in the USA
Mattel has announced price increases in the USA due to President Donald Trump's import tariffs. The toy manufacturer has announced that it will adjust prices in the US market where “necessary”. The company has not yet revealed which toys will be affected by the increases. However, company boss Ynon Kreiz said that the price for 40 to 50 percent of the product range would not exceed 20 dollars.
Mattel relocates production from China
China in particular, a major production location for the toy industry, has been hit hard by Trump's tariffs. The tariffs on goods manufactured there are now at 145 percent.
Mattel is now planning to move its production from China to other countries as quickly as possible. This year, 500 products are to be affected. According to Knies, the company is in a better position than its competitors: At Mattel, 40 percent of global production comes from China, compared to an industry average of 80 percent, he said.
