Two anniversaries for global sustainability

This year also marks five years to go to the EU’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030 target, so is a good opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved so far, the progress still need to be made. The UN Global Compact also wants to recognise the pivotal role of responsible business in driving sustainable development, and renew our collective commitment to embedding sustainability at the core of business strategy for long-term impact.

Sharing sustainability accomplishments

The UN Global Compact Network UK will lead a month-long campaign of storytelling and digital engagement to raise awareness of the SDGs, share practical examples of business leadership, and celebrate achievements that inspire further action.

The Network invites organisations to participate by sharing their sustainability accomplishments over the last 10 years and the actions they are undertaking to advance the SDGs.

The campaign culminates on 25 September 2025 with SDG Flag Day, which marks the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Continuous growth

After beginning in 2020 in the Netherlands, SDG Flag Day has continued to grow, encompassing hundreds of businesses, government departments, civil society organisations, and schools. Every September the SDG Flag is raised to mark support for the adoption of the SDGs.

This year, The UN Global Compact Network UK will be participating for the fourth consecutive
year, once again inviting organisations to raise the flag for the SDGs.
