US Congress votes in favor of bill on possible TikTok ban
The US House of Representatives votes in favor of requiring the Chinese company Bytedance to sell Tiktok. Yesterday, the US House of Representatives has passed a bill by a large majority that could lead to the video platform Tiktok being banned in the United States.
Selling Tiktok within 180 days
The bill calls on the Chinese parent company Bytedance to sell Tiktok within 180 days. Bytedance is suspected of giving the Chinese Communist Party access to user data. A corresponding bill has now cleared the first hurdle in the Congress chamber. 352 MPs voted in favor, 65 against.
The bill will now go to the US Senate. US President Joe Biden has stated that he would sign the law.
