Whitney Houston gets her own Barbie

Mattel is celebrating the iconic Whitney Houston with its newest Barbie. The company announced on Aug. 9 that it had launched a Barbie inspired by the late singer and actress.

The Houston doll is meant to recognize the star's "record-breaking career, legacy and timeless music that inspired generations of artists and continues to resonate with fans around the world," Mattel said in a news release. The launch coincides with Houston's birthday on Aug. 9. Houston would have turned 63 this year.

Barbie collaborated with Pat Houston, the executor of Houston's estate and president of The Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, to create the doll. She features a hairstyle, accessories and an outfit resembling the outfit Houston wore in her iconic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" music video. Pat Houston said in a statement that the new Barbie is making one of Whitney's dreams come true: “May this doll remind every child and every collector that dreams have no limits, excellence leaves a lasting imprint, and true greatness never goes out of style."

The Barbie Whitney Houston doll is now available online at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel's websites. It can also be purchased in Target stores.
