Wicked For Good: record opening weekend with $150M in U.S.

“Wicked: For Good,” the second part of Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the Broadway musical, had a highly successful opening weekend. It earned an estimated $150 million in North America and $226 million worldwide. The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh in supporting roles.

Record-breaking

The movie achieved several records: it became the biggest opening ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, surpassing the first film’s $112 million debut; the second-biggest opening of the year behind A Minecraft Movie; the top overseas launch for a Broadway adaptation; the fifth-biggest opening for any musical; and the fourth-largest three-day opening of the year so far.
