XFL and USFL announce intent to merge

The United States Football League ("USFL") and the XFL have announced their intent to merge.

Subject to customary regulatory approvals and if the transaction is consummated, the new league will build a world-class operation based on the recent seasons of both leagues.  This historic merger will provide professional spring football with significant capabilities and resources to ensure future growth and further the development of the combined players, coaches and staff that will join forces.

More details about the new league will be announced at a later date.
