Australia introduced permanent ban on baby bottle self-feeding devices
Australia has implemented a permanent nationwide ban on baby bottle self-feeding devices due to safety concerns, including the risks of choking, aspiration, and suffocation. The ban took full effect on 26 May 2026 under the Consumer Goods (Baby Bottle Self-feeding Devices) Permanent Ban 2026.
Under the regulation, a baby bottle self-feeding device is defined as a product designed to allow an infant to feed from a bottle without another person physically holding it. The device enables hands-free feeding either by supporting the bottle’s position or through the use of a straw, tube, or similar mechanism.
Products that use a tube but are designed so that feeding can only occur while the infant is actively being held by another person are not included in the ban.
